Today on SA Voices from the Field we are speaking with Dr. Angela Batista, Chair of the NASPA Board of Directors and Vice President of Student Affairs and Institutional Diversity and Inclusion at Champlain College .
Batista actively serves as a national and international
consultant and her service in professional organizations includes
leadership roles in various organizations including serving as an
executive officer on the Executive Committee of the Latino Caucus
for the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher
Education (NCORE) and various leadership roles in the Student
Affairs Administrators in Higher Education Association, also known
as NASPA. Batista served as the national Vice Chair and Chair for
the NASPA Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community, a member of NASPA’s
Equity and Inclusion Commission, the 2016 National Conference
Leadership and Planning Team, and faculty for the NASPA Dungy
Leadership Institute (DLI) and Escaleras Latinx/a/o professional
institute, which she co-directed in 2018. She also supported the
development of the NASPA Latin American and the Caribbean (NASPA
LAC) Division, encompassing 41 countries.
Batista has received several honors and has been recognized
nationally for her work in Student Affairs, Diversity, Equity and
Social Justice. Batista was the recipient of the 2017 NASPA
Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community (LKC) Service Award and the 2013
NASPA LKC Administrator of the Year Award. The University of
Vermont established the Angela Batista Social Justice Award,
awarded to an undergraduate student every year, in 1999.
